Chin Implant

Chin Augmentation is a very common procedure to bring balance to the facial structure by way of correcting a weak chin due to congenital deficiency, age-related bone resorption or facial trauma.
A strong chin has long been considered a sign of physical beauty. Today, persons with weak or receding chins can have the condition corrected with a simple and routine outpatient surgery that involves adding a synthetic prosthesis to the existing chin structure. Some may require a surgical procedure in which the chin bone is moved forward to give them the desired appearance. The procedure may be used in conjunction with other procedures such as a facelift or facial liposuction which completes the desires of the patient to enhance their physical appearance.
Chin implants may augment the jaw to correct problems with weak chins, sagging skin in the chin area, and improve the shape and balance of the face.

    Pre-Operative Care

Inform us about any allergies, any serious medical condition(s), and all medications you are taking (both prescription and non-prescription)
Avoid aspirin and aspirin-containing medicines for two weeks prior to surgery

    The Operation

To augment the chin, the surgeon begins by making an incision either in the natural crease line just under the chin or inside the mouth, where gum and lower lip meet. By gently stretching this tissue, the surgeon creates a space where an implant can be inserted. This implant, made of synthetic material that feels much like natural tissue normally found in the chin, is available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes. This allows custom fitting of the implant to the configurations of the patient's face. After implantation, the surgeon uses fine sutures to close the incision. When the incision is inside the mouth, no scarring is visible. If the incision is under the chin, the scar is usually imperceptible.
In order to correct whatever your particular problem may be, a special chin prosthesis will be carefully selected for you by the surgeon. Your desires and aspirations will be taken into account prior to surgery and you will also be encouraged to ask as many questions relating to the outcome of the procedure, and the procedure itself.

    Post-Operative Care

Your plastic surgeon will provide you with instructions about post-operative care. There will be dietary restrictions as well as limitations to your activities. However, you should be aware that your ability to move your mouth and lips may be diminished temporarily.
